Feelings on Fall

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

Today is my birthday. So, I'm going to talk about one of my favorite things...Fall.

Around here, August has been so mild this year. Temperatures haven't gone above the low 80s and, in fact, it feels like a majority of August has been fall-like. After a ridiculously hot July, in which I spent my last month of pregnancy, this cooler weather is completely welcome! So, with the start of the new semester (we live in a college town), the cooler temps, and the noticeably shorter days, fall seems to be knocking on our door.

This time of year always makes me want to go shopping. I want to buy sweaters, scarves, cute shoes, and lots and lots of gorgeous leather bags. I know, weird. But I think it's my way of getting ready to "hibernate" for the winter. I also tend to get the urge to crochet more and read more (more on what I'm planning to read, coming in Thursday's post).

Anyway, I thought I would share with you some of the things I'm liking for fall.

1. Black and White Polka Dot Sweater
Target did a great job with this sweater. I actually have it in a redish color from last years line and it has worn really well! I like that it isn't just a basic sweater, but rather has a little interest to it with the dots. The fit of it is also great. It is a nice length in both the arms and on the torso. Could you imagine this paired with a fun colored blouse underneath?

2. Brown Braided Belt
A simple braided belt can be the perfect accessory! Throw it on around a shirt dress or even to cinch in a cute sweater. Then, of course, you can always use it in a conventional way by putting it around your waist.

3. Red Penny Loafers
Now, Gap has these listed as "driving shoes," so I'm not sure how well they would fare in our harsh winters here in NY, but I still think they are quite adorable! Plus, with a $50 price tag, they are resonably priced too! These would be an easy way to add a bit of attitude to an otherwise straight laced outfit.

4. Leather and Canvas Bag
I'm pretty sure this bag was originally from Anthropologie. But for some reason, I can't seem to find it on their website anymore. No worries! Just click on the link and it will take you to some great alternatives they have. What I really love about this specific bag is the fabric and leather combination. The leather gives it a little something extra.

5. Stary Scarf
I really love the simplicity of this scarf. It would look great with a beautiful trench coat or just paired with a t-shirt and jeans. I also like the color--it makes it feel very earthy/bohemian.

6. Sheer White Top
I love the versatility of this shirt. It can be worn on a warmer day or paired with a cardigan for the cooler weather. It can also be dressed up or down--paired with a skirt for a dressier number or thrown on with jeans for a more casual look. Plus, it comes in a bunch of different colors!

What season is your favorite? What do you do enjoy most about it?

Waking up this morning was a chore...I love sleeping in on rainy days.

There is just something about rain that makes me want to snuggle in for the day. When we have children,I am going to teach them that a rainy day means movies, lots of snuggles, and tons of time as a family. Instead of rain meaning that the day is going to be dreadful, it will become a special day for all of us. I hope the 12 kids we will have, love our future rainy-day traditions. ;)

12 kids...ha! Oh how the carpenter would be surprised!

Do you know what the best sound in the entire world is?

Rain on your rooftop.

My family owns a few small cabins in Algonquin Park, Canada. It is my favorite place to vacation. After driving about six hours to get to the lake, we then take a half hour boat ride to the cabins.

Yes, you can only get to it by boat.

The definition of amazing.

There are no phones, tvs, or electric (other than the generator that we use at night). We bathe in the lake and go on canoe trips daily. It is wonderful.

Yet, I love this place infinitely more when there is a storm rolling through. The sound of the rain on the rooftop is such a beautiful noise to fall asleep to. Nature at its finest.

One thing I never expected, when we purchased this house, was to have a little piece of our Canadian haven, here in New York. The first night that it rained this past month, I about peed my pants. Well maybe not really, but I was pretty darn excited to say the least. Our bedroom has the perfect rain-on-the-rooftop sound!!

We don't have an attic, so we don't have that sound barrier between the roof and our bedroom.

Perfection.

The most simple things, make me ecstatic.

This house is a keeper.
