We are getting there...

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

First I have to say, thank you all for your kind words and prayers. After yesterday's post, I am truly at peace and know that God is in control. Amen for serving an amazing, all powerful God!!
----------------------------------------------------------------
Now, let's get on to the oooey-gooey, detail-filled post of today. I promise it is a good one. Why don't we just say that there has been a lot of progress in house-update-world.

We are moving right along as we try to accomplish that wonderful list of things-that-need-to-be-done-before-we-move-in. I think we are feeling good about the progress so far. Who knows if we will end up in the house by Sunday; I'm still bound and determined. Unfortunately, I can't make paint dry faster, so its basically going to be up to Jonathan to decide if we can risk putting our carpet down on the painted floor and fill the painted kitchen shelves with dishes.

But enough from me. Why don't we just view a bunch of updated pictures and call this post a wrap?

Here is the current state of our bathroom. The tub and toilet have been plumed and the sink should be done within the next few days. Now, we just need to wait until the new window comes in and then Jonathan can finish trimming everything out!

The place where there isn't any bead-board will eventually hold our built in cabinet. We are just taking our time figuring out exactly what we want to put there :)

My pretty, yellow, clawfoot tub. This makes me SO happy. I can't tell you how long I have wanted a painted clawfoot tub. It makes me so happy to walk in the bathroom and see her. Oh and we also painted the underside of the sink too.

And as you can see from the above picture, we still need to finish the inside of the tub. The kit for doing so should be in tomorrow! Oh and we will be doing the sink as well.

Jonathan primed the kitchen cabinet doors over the weekend. So, now we just need to throw two quick coats of white on 'em and they will be donezo!

My task this weekend was to mow the lawn (check!) and to paint the kitchen walls the same Marina Gray by Benjamin Moore, that is in the bathroom. Here she is!!

Oo and do you like my pretty pantry? Jonathan really made her look SO much better. You can see a before picture in this post.

Oh and for those wondering about the outcome of our bedroom flooring debacle, well, thankfully, the paint darkened quite a bit.

Git R Done: Week 4

Friday, April 13, 2012

Well, this week I don't have much to report. It isn't because I didn't do things, it is more that I didn't have time to focus on something specific that I have been putting off.

We have been so intent on getting everything house-related done, that I haven't had time to focus on anything else. Things that don't need to be done immediately are thrown by the wayside. Meaning, there is no time for crafting, organizing that rouge closet, or painting that area that I keep putting off. Basically,  if it isn't on this list, then it isn't a priority right now.

So, why don't we revisit that list. I posted it on Monday, but we are already able to cross off a few things!! Here is where we are at:

Kitchen:
--Caulk/fix cabinets
--Paint cabinets and walls
--Rehang cabinet doors

Dining Room:
--Rip out carpet
--Prime and paint walls/ceiling/radiators/trim

Living Room:
--Fix up floors (i.e. remove nails and leftover carpet pieces)
--Prime and paint walls/ceiling/radiators/trim
--Remove corner radiator (We decided not to do this, in the interest of time and we want to live with it and see if we really do need three radiators in the living room.)

Bathroom:
--Install beadboard (The only thing left to do is put the cap on, but we are going to call it a done deal, because the cap can't go on until the door and window molding is put back up.)
--Finish painting tub and sink
--Install all fixtures (tub, toilet, etc) and hardware (towel bars, faucet, etc)
--Hang shelving and cabinet (This is going to have to wait. The cabinet we were planning on installing isn't going to work. So, we are putting it off until we can decide what we would like to do.)
--Install new window

Master Bedroom:
--Clean up, then paint floor
--Install new windows
--Paint and install trim
--Install hardware in closet
--Build and install bookshelf

So, as you can see a lot has been done and a lot has been pushed back until after we move in. Like I said, if it isn't a 'has-to-be-done-now' type thing, then we aren't going to waste our time.

The good thing is that the bedroom floor and kitchen cabinets are painted. This means that we can start the waiting process and let them dry the full amount of time that they need to. No moving in dishes or setting up our bedroom and hoping that things don't chip. Instead we are going to let them dry as long as possible before we bite the bullet and start the moving process. I have to say, I'm pretty anxious to start moving, so let's hope that the time flies by.

Here is our list of things to accomplish this weekend:

--mow the lawn (Seems like this wouldn't be a priority, but it needs to be done so we don't end up taking a weed-wacker to the whole thing!)
--paint the kitchen
--paint the cabinet doors
--finish painting tub and sink
--start the moving process (Basically take the already packed boxes from our apartment and put them on the porch at the new house)

I will be back with an update on Monday! What are your weekend plans? Anything that involves moving, whether it be moving things around in your house or moving to a different house? What about mowing your lawn? I know ours is growing like there is no tomorrow! Got to get on that bugger. Git r done :)

Totally in love!

Thursday, April 5, 2012

So it's been exactly two weeks since y'all have seen our master bedroom and bathroom progress. I have to say, it was an intentional break. I really don't think you want to see a play-by-play of every coat of paint and every little thing that happens.

Though, if you do, please let me know! ;)

So, Jonathan and I have been working like busy bees to get things done by the time of our move in date. I have decided that it is time to step my work into high gear. So, my days are spent painting, painting, and more painting. It has been awesome though. I honestly enjoy painting and find it very relaxing and cathartic.

So, let's get to business.

In the master bedroom, I was going for a calming vibe. I originally wanted it to have a shabby chic look, but it is slowly evolving into a very traditional space. We will see where it ends up...but that is a post for later.

Remember how the space looked at the beginning? You would walk up the stairs

and straight ahead there was this room

and if you turned right, there was this room.

It was a very closed off and dated space.

Now it looks like this.

Ooo a rare glimpse of the carpenter at work. Let's observe.

So, the wall color is New Born's Eyes by Benjamin Moore and I am loving it. I think that the sharp contrast between the blue and white is very pleasing to the eyes. Oh and the color is reading the truest in the first picture.

I have to say, I am very proud of this room. It is the first room that I have ever panted and I think it turned out pretty darn good.

Plus, not to toot my own horn, but Jonathan said that I may be a better edger then he is.

How about them apples.

Well, I did learn from the best. That is, he taught me. :)

So, needless to say our bedroom is shaping up pretty darn fast.

Oh! I almost forgot to show you the bling we added to her.

Very romantic. I'm pretty much obsessed. She is sparkly and shiny and casts an awesome glow on the ceiling. And she shall be named...

Ok.

I will move on.

Here is the current state of our bathroom. He received his two coats of paint yesterday and I'm telling you he is pretty dapper now! First, the before:

and now the after...

The color we chose is a muddy gray. Sometimes it looks more brown, sometimes more gray. It's also BM in Marina Gray. I would say that the middle picture represents the color the best.

This color, combined with the white of the wainscoting and tiles, is going to really pop. Plus, adding in the accents of yellow and oh man! He is really going to be a looker in the end. I can't wait to show you!!!

Oh! I almost forgot, here is a preview of our tile :)

Yet again...I'm completely in love. I can't promise I will move on from this one though. ;)
